Volvo Penta and Stara collaborate to deliver higher speed, lower consumption and greater reliability...

Volvo Penta Power Drives Next Generation Spreaders

Volvo Penta and Stara enhance agricultural productivity with the Hércules 9.0, offering up to 15% faster operation and up to 20% fuel savings through the efficient D8 engine. Unveiled at Agrishow 2026 in Brazil, the upgraded model strengthens Stara’s competitive position with improved efficiency, powerful performance, and a lower total cost of ownership for agricultural operations.

A Partnership Focused on Productivity

Volvo Penta has teamed up with Stara, a global leader in agricultural machinery, to power the new Hércules 9.0 self propelled spreader. Expanding the renowned Hércules lineup, this higher capacity model reinforces Volvo Penta’s commitment to delivering solutions that enhance productivity in Brazil’s vital agriculture sector. The machine features a 9 ton fertilizer hopper designed to boost output and minimize downtime by reducing refill frequency.

“Customers operating the Hércules 9.0 equipped with the Volvo Penta engine are seeing clear performance improvements,” says Cristiano Paim Buss, Director of Research and Development at Stara. “Machines powered by the D8 are achieving 10–15% increases in working speed while cutting fuel use by approximately 15–20%, depending on field conditions.”

Volvo Penta Power for Demanding Agricultural Work

At the core of the Hércules 9.0 is the Volvo Penta D8, engineered to deliver high power density and strong torque at low engine speeds. This enables smooth, efficient operation in challenging agricultural environments. By maintaining performance at lower RPM, the D8 supports reduced fuel consumption and more consistent machine behavior — key factors in lowering operating costs and improving total cost of ownership for farmers and contractors.

“The engine’s steady torque allows the machine to maintain a uniform working speed, which is essential for accurate spreading,” says Gabriel Barsalini, Head of Volvo Penta Brazil. “Stara and its customers have been impressed by the D8’s power density and the overall robustness of the Volvo Penta solution.”

Field Proven Reliability

In 2025, Stara deployed 11 pilot Hércules 9.0 units across Brazil to validate performance in real world conditions. These machines were monitored in diverse terrains and applications to ensure reliability and durability. Following successful field testing, serial production is now underway, with the first customer deliveries beginning this month.

“The key advantages we’ve observed with the Volvo Penta engine are reliability, durability, and low fuel consumption,” Buss adds. “The ability to operate with high torque at low RPM significantly reduces fuel use. The engine integrates seamlessly with the machine’s distribution system, delivering efficient field performance. Lower RPM also means reduced noise and vibration, improving operator comfort inside the cab.”
