The latest power upgrade for Newt Marine was a D13 engine 6-cylinder, 12.8-liter, direct-injected marine diesel engine that meets all US EPA Tier III emission regulations. The engine produces low noxious emissions and no visible smoke, regardless of load. An electronic engine management system controls unit injectors and fuel distribution to optimize the fuel-air mixture and improve combustion. The result is high thermal efficiency, reduced exhaust emissions and fuel savings that exceed 25 gallons per hour. “We are averaging 13 gallons an hour on the new Volvo Penta engines" says Carter Newt, Newt Marine Service, while "the old engines were right around 38 to 39 gallons per hour.”
